Hero’s has leaked sketches of the Mavrick 440, which may heavily mimic the platform of the Harley-Davidson X440.
It was only a matter of time after the Harley-Davidson X440 was introduced before Hero used the platform to introduce their own rival into the race. According to the recently leaked sketches, the Mavrick 440 will likely have a neo-retro style thanks to its circular headlamp and what appears to be a daytime running light. The Maverick 440 could have a fairly neutral riding position due to its upright handlebars, making it comfortable for both city commuting and long rides.
The drawings also show a broad, one-piece seat that narrows towards the front of the bike, possibly sacrificing some extra cushioning to make the bike more manageable for riders with shorter legs. Suspected test mules for the Mavrick 440 have been seen on Indian streets donning camouflage. They have a single exhaust system that is powered by a single cylinder.
In addition, they have a trellis frame, front and rear disc brakes, and a twin-shock rear suspension system with alloy rims. Given its 440 designations, the Mavrick may be using the engine from the Harley-Davidson X440, which produces 37Nm at 4000 rpm and 27bhp at 6000 rpm. According to Harley-Davidson, the engine produces 90% of its torque as early as 2000 rpm. It remains to be seen if the Maverick 440 will retain that low-end grunt.
The Mavrick 440 will go up against a crowded field of heavyweight rivals at launch, including the Triumph 400 twins and the Harley-Davidson X440, its stablemate. The Royal Enfield Bullet and Classic 350, the Honda CB350 triplets, and the KTM 390 Duke, a bike that is in a class by itself, are possible rivals. Hero has never before sold a motorcycle with such a big capacity. Its collaboration with Harley-Davidson, who has experience producing larger motorcycles, will undoubtedly be beneficial. It remains to be seen if that translates into the production-spec Mavrick 400.
